Do hammock tents keep you cooler in hot weather? Usually, yes, compared with a ground tent. You're off the warm ground, air can move around and under you, and with the rainfly guyed out wide or left off on a clear night, a breeze reaches you through the bug net. The catch is insulation: a hammock tent with an insulated pad, like a Haven, blocks the cooling air underneath, so it won't feel as cool as a bare mesh hammock. On very hot, still nights no shelter stays cool; site choice and ventilation matter more than the shelter type.

Why a hammock tent can feel cooler than a ground tent

Off the ground. Ground that has soaked up sun all day can stay warm into the night. A hung bed isn't sitting on it.
Airflow on all sides. A ground tent's walls and floor trap still, humid air. A hammock tent hangs in open air, and with the fly raised, a breeze moves across the bug net.
A fly you can open up. On a Haven you can guy the rainfly out wide, prop one side up in porch mode with the guylines (guyline setup), or roll it back on a clear night and sleep under the net. The condensation guide explains how guying out the fly moves air through.
Shade you can choose. Because you hang from trees, you're usually in shade, and you're not limited to the cleared, sunny tent pads at a campground.

Where it won't feel cooler

The insulated pad. A Haven's pad is part of the structure that keeps the bed flat, and it insulates you from the air below. That's what keeps you warm in cold weather, and it means you don't get the full under-body cooling of a bare hammock. Sleep on top of your sleeping bag or under a light sheet instead of inside a bag.
Still, humid nights. With no breeze, any shelter feels muggy. A hammock tent helps a little; it doesn't air-condition.
Rain plus heat. In a warm storm you'll want the fly down, which cuts airflow. Guy out the downwind side to keep some air moving while you stay dry.

Which Haven for hot weather?

The Haven Spectre has a body made of MONOLITE mesh, so air passes through the hammock itself, and its standard True Level Spectre pad is thinner and lighter than our other pads. It's our best fit for warm nights. Because the mesh isn't waterproof, the Spectre's rainfly covers the whole body when rain comes. The Haven Tent and Haven XL work well in summer with the fly guyed out. The Haven Safari's 300d canvas body is our most heavy-duty; in hot weather, give it shade and an open fly.

Tips for sleeping cool in a hammock tent

Hang in shade with a breeze. Look for the evening wind direction; near water is often breezier.
Open the fly. Guy it out wide, or leave it rolled back when no rain is forecast (and keep it handy).
Keep the net zipped. Warm nights are buggy nights (see bug protection).
Swap the bag for a sheet or light quilt, and sleep in light, dry clothing.
Set up late. Hang in the evening shade rather than letting the fabric sit in afternoon sun.
Drink water before bed and keep a bottle in the pocket.
