When we were young, the outdoors was a realm of endless possibilities. We spent hours exploring, imagining, and immersing ourselves in nature. But somewhere along the way, many of us lost that spark of exploration. Now as grumpy-grownups we find ourselves stuck indoors exploring the word through the glass on our phones. Why do grownups stop camping? Here are the big five reasons, and if you're open to it, how the Haven Tent can reignite your love for the great outdoors.

1. Weather Conditions

One of the biggest deterrents for adults considering a camping trip is the unpredictability and harshness of weather. Rain, extreme cold or heat, and wind can turn what was supposed to be a fun and relaxing getaway into a miserable experience. The fear of being caught in a storm or freezing temperatures keeps many would-be campers at home.

A few years back I set up my hammock for a relaxing night on the beach. We had spent the day building a driftwood fort/hammock stand and I was excited to give it a go. What started as a relaxing evening quickly turned into a wild wind and sea foam filled night. Do I regret going? No. I had the popper gear, and the inclement weather only made the night more memorable. Weather is only as bad as your weakest piece of gear!

How we can help:

The Haven Tent is designed to provide comfort regardless of the weather. The fly can be guyed out on hot evenings or locked down tight in the four corners for storm mode if (and when) the weather turns. Both hammock and rainfly are waterproof (4000mm) and the insulated sleeping pad has you covered on heat. Don't let a little weather keep you locked inside.

2. Insects and Wildlife

Another significant concern for campers is dealing with insects like mosquitoes, ticks, spiders as well as the potential dangers posed by larger wildlife like mountain lions or bears. Oh, if we had a nickel for every "bear burrito" comment on our social media 😅 We get it, the wild has animals. The again, so does the Ocean. The cities are full of strangers and distracted drivers are everywhere. But there's actually quite a bit you can do to protect yourself while camping. Simply, keep food and aromatic things far from camp and up in the air or locked in appropriate containers. See our blog post on bear-safety while camping.

Enter the Haven:

If you ignore bear safety protocols, there's not much a Haven Tent (or any ground tent) can do for you. But for smaller threats, the Haven Tent’s design keeps you protected from most visitors. The tent is elevated, so you're off the ground and away from crawling insects. It also comes with a no-see-um insect net to protect you from mosquitoes and other flying pests. It's actually fun to watch the bumping their heads in frustration. Another win for the Haven Tent is the insulated pad which means no bugs will be biting through the material like in a regular parachute hammock.

3. Lack of Comfort

A lifetime of sleeping on soft, comfortable beds has ruined us for sleeping outside. Many adults struggle with the lack of comfort associated with traditional camping. Hard or uneven ground, inadequate sleeping bags or pads, and an overall lack of home-like amenities can make camping a less-than-enjoyable experience. This discomfort often discourages adults from spending nights outdoors.

We hear this all the time, "I'm getting too old to camp" and "I just can't get a good night's sleep".

Haven Tent saves the day:

The Haven Tent offers a revolutionary design that mimics the comfort of your home mattress. No more rocks under your back sliding off your pad in the middle of the night. And who in their right mind can sleep while being bent like a banana?! The tent’s insulated sleeping pad and adjustable features (lounge strap) allow you to customize your sleeping environment ensuring a restful night in nature.

4. Sanitation Issues

Limited access to clean water, toilets, and showers, as well as proper waste disposal, are significant concerns for many adults considering camping. These sanitation issues can make camping feel inconvenient and unpleasant, deterring people from spending time in the wilderness.

The Solution:

While the Haven Tent doesn't provide plumbing, being elevated above muddy or dusty ground helps keep you and your gear as clean as possible. Spend a week in the woods and the ONLY thing that touches the ground should be your boots. Haven Tent’s design also includes features for organizing and storing your gear efficiently, keeping your campsite tidy.

5. Noise and Crowds

Noise from other campers, nearby activities, or wildlife can disturb the peace and quiet many seek when camping. Additionally, overcrowded campsites can detract from the solitude and connection with nature that many adults desire.

The Solution:

Haven Tent’s portability and flexibility in finding a campsite allows you to venture further into the wilderness, away from crowded campsites and noisy environments. Its lightweight design makes it easy to carry to more remote, peaceful locations where you can enjoy the tranquility of nature undisturbed.
