I have owned the Specter for about a year now and love that it is so light as I am pretty exclusively a backpacker. I love all of my Haven Tents as I own almost all iterations. As other reviewers have mentioned the Specter does not really breathe at all. Which was great in Maine when it was cold and rainy but not so great in Havasupai’s warm dry conditions. I do really appreciate being able to see through the fabric but I believe the mesh of the other versions is preferable for air flow. I cannot say how much I appreciate how lightweight it is. My hammock set up has consistently been a couple pounds heavier than my lightweight tent companions set up for a few years now. With the specter we all have the same weight tent and sleeping pad combo. The mesh pockets that you run the poles through are a complete bust in my opinion. If you are trying to set up in a hurry trying to get the poles through the loops is a time consuming hassle. I believe a single long channel would be a huge convenience and worth the small amount of extra weight. I would also take the extra oz of a lightweight ground cover made to the size of the hammock. I did order one online and add loops to it ( it was a bit too long) but an exact match would work much better. I enjoyed having the one I purchased as it added a layer of warmth in Maine when the hammock was elevated and protected the bottom when I had to set up in bivy mode and when there were bushes or shrubs I had to hang my hammock above. I also struggle some with the rain fly. I like the ease of being able to set up the fly before setting up the hammock that the other haven hammocks offer. Quick cover from rain or bright hot sun light. Trying to do it with the one provided for the specter is a bit fiddly and annoying. If there is an easier way I’d love an instructional video. The new fly seems like that may be an easier option but I have not checked out its weight. Last but not least, I’d love if this came in the standard smaller size. I’ve found that the larger longer hammocks move around a lot more for someone my size when I am inside trying to turn over or change clothes. For reference, Im 5’6” and 135lbs ( not that I don’t love the extra space provided by the wider longer versions for my pack or dogs). In conclusion, I would 1000% buy another haven hammock!! Still the best night’s sleep on the trail.

Such a great little set up I was able to use it in every mode: open air, full storm cover, which was also good for keeping warm. Very fun to camp in. I can’t wait to use it again.

I live haven but 2 tie down straps snapped off while winds were blowing and one ripped the rainfly i spent about an hour with a fishing hook and line trying to fix it in the wind , This is my second tent so I love haven but as someone that has spent se real nights im both my tents I can say there is just something g about the light weight version that just leaves me craving something, Also I dont know how but myatress was loosing air it has never been near a compromising object to put any holes So in all im feeling like did I do something g wrong and should I not concider the new rainfly that was just put out in fear it will just rip like this one

The “Spectre” is great, but I have two suggestions for improvement. 1) The mesh fabric isn't breathable enough. When it's closed, I feel like I'm not getting enough fresh air. When I leave it open, mosquitoes get in. I don't know how durable the mesh needs to be. Maybe it helps keep the whole thing stable. But if possible, it would be great if as much of it as possible was made of breathable mosquito netting. 2) It would be great if Haven Tents could figure out a way to secure the “pad” in the middle of the hammock so it doesn’t slide around when you climb in or roll over. That would make it way more comfortable.

U.F.O. / U.F.B - Amazing "unknown flying object" oder "unknown flying bat" in german woods. - I am absolutely thrilled with this piece of gear. It completely meets all my expectations and everything Derek promises in his videos. However, I have three suggestions on how the hammock could be improved: 1) Insulation pad: Even with the “Haven Insulated Pad, R 5.3, True Level, XL” my butt and back were very cold at 5 °C (41 °F). It could be filled with high-quality down to improve insulation. 2) Ventilation: The mesh on the “Haven Spectre” isn’t very breathable. I felt short of breath and had to leave the mesh open. Perhaps in future versions could be used more breathable mosquito net, at least in the head area. 3) The pad slipping. The pad could be secured to the hammock in some way so that repeatedly re-centering the pad with the “elbow trick” becomes unnecessary.

I bought it and the zipper failed on multiple places on the first use. Luckily the customer service is amazing and they sent me a new hammock body with the upgraded zipper. I have the feeling there is now a little extra fabric in there so that there's no tension on that zipper. This works like a charm. I've also got the safari for which it has a lot of tension and always needs 2 hands to close the zipper when inside. I'm still afraid to break the zipper or tear the bug net every time so the Spectre's zipper upgrade was a huge deal for me. I don't really like using the rainfly for the spectre. The zipper gets stuck a lot and it is really flimsy and hard to get a good windproof setup where it doesn't wave in the wind like a flag... I guess that is the price to pay for ultralight though. So all in all I like this hammock body best (zipper, its seethrough, works better preventing condensation and has gear sling), but I prefer my safari rainfly (heavy duty, easier shaped). Its too bad they're not matching sizes so I can't mix and match to make this work as a set. Oh and one more thing about the Spectre, the ridgeline is sown in with a 180 degree twist. That doesn't make it any less functional or strong, but I do think its annoying.

The specter tent as is, has some flaws but in terms of a "good night sleep" or "comfort" , it's top notch. I have the specter with the XL pad and cover, I slept with a 40F topquilt and I was nice and toasty in 45F weather at night. PROS: -Light weight -Spacious, I can sit up in it and get dressed (I'm 5'7") - Compact, the tent itself comes down to a very small bundle - Lots of storage, don't underestimate the two gear storage panels at the foot and head, they hold a lot! - Comfortable, been sleeping in hammocks for years, I can't fathom going back to regular hammocks now. - Easy set up CONS: - Sil Poly tarp is poorly designed, the zipper malfunctions easily, gets caught easily, hard to clean in the field. - You can't close the fly and still have the tarp staked out, cause it's missing tie outs at those corners, so you have to set it up in "storm mode" which sucks, because you severely reduce airflow. - The tent is very lightweight yes, but it's not waterproof at the bottom and the mesh lets in a ton of dust, so if you're setting it up on the ground, now you have to carry a tarp to make it waterproof/dust proof. You just lost the weight savings and you're jerry rigging something to make it work. - The bundles they provide are dumb, I don't need a spork, or a set of string lights or tiny cheap spot lights, give me a bundle that includes everything I need to make this tent work in all situations: Give me a ground tarp to make up for your lack of forethought in designing a non-waterproof bottom; give me some light-weight telescopic poles, so I can use them to set up the fly higher up, or use them on the ground for when I'm setting the tent down; Changes I'd make: Get rid of that dyneema fly, it is outrageously expensive, and yet you designed it so you can overlap the ends to close it rather than having a zipper. Design a silpoly fly like the dyneema one. If you're hell bent on keeping the zippered sylpoly, at least add extra tie down spots to keep the 4 corners tied down rather than attaching it to the hammock, this allows it to be taut and away from the hammock to retain some airflow. I would add also a tie down spot to the 2 long sides. They add negligeable wight but a ton more functionality. Give up the black, it's terrible. Don't just make something light, for the sake of being light and then it underperforms vs heavier fly/product. Lightweight is useless if it creates more problems and have to carry extra weight to compensate the shortcomings of the product.

Straight Out of the Box first time setup was really user-friendly and intuitive. I was very surprised by how compact the entire system is. Once fully set up I laid down and I would have to say this is the most comfortable way that I can possibly get a night sleep outdoors and especially on uneven ground. I barely get 4 hours of sleep in my bed at home but I was able to sleep comfortably through the night with a cliff to my one side and a deep natural Forest to my other. I generally get night anxiety when sleeping in the forest alone but with the interior space was comforting and I had no such anxiety through the night which was surprising. I initially did not think I would like the dark burgundy to Black color of the rainfly until I realized I had slept in an hour past sunrise. This in fact is now a feature I will cherish. Break down and pack up of the system was very easy and the one thing everybody dreads is being able to get everything back in the bag and with the Haven specter I had room to spare. After using this system I truly believe it is an ingenious design and has all of the things necessary for me to be able to backpack ,Moto camp and Camp off of my EUC. Three things I am greatly looking forward to this spring. With the injuries that I have sustained and my inability to pack heavy weight or to get comfortable and sleep these things would not be possible without the Haven system. I simply would not be able to pack enough gear to sleep comfortably on the ground. From my point of view you are giving me access to doors that I had previously thought closed to me. Thank you !

Absolutely a perfect add to my backpack. I have only had it in colder weather, and I purchased the insulated pad as well, and I can not say enough. While everyone else was freezing in the low 20 degree windy weather I was warm and toasty. I would say with my setup this border as cold as I would want to go, but would say if I needed it to it would be fine. I can’t wait to do some warm weather hiking. This is absolutely an all season purchase. I was a little hesitant, but now I know. Thank you for making this as I am a happy customer.

I am 66 years old and I like comfort. The Spectre is ultralight and extremely comfortable. I supported sleeping in warmth with the Alumate under the Insulated Pad cover which reflects your heat back. :-)

I just received my Haven Spectre Friday. Three days early (thank you very much). This is a game changer. I keep my different backpacking set-ups on a spreadsheet as a packing list and to check weight. When you consider tent, pad, and rainfly all in one against my tent set-ups. The weight is a toss up. My Haven Spectre is in the middle. Especially when eliminating my chair. Besides that, this is the most comfortable sleep system (when paired with my Zenbivy quilt, sheet, and pillow) that I have ever used. I got the True Level Insulated R5.3 pad. When laying in it yesterday in 40 degree weather…it was super comfy. Can’t wait to get out in it overnight. Maybe tonight in the rain. By the way, I set it up in the rain. No problem. Three or four of my friends and I are going hammock camping in Tennessee. I told them all to take the plunge!

I used my Spectre once on my farm property woods in middle Tennessee so did not have to carry in backpack. First time set up fairly easy and straightforward. I like the design of inside the hammock, lay flat, storage wings. Was about 45F overnight, and sleeping pad and sleeping pad cover were great. Slept fairly well. I have the Silpoly tarp, which was integrated well with hammock. I'm still waiting to receive my Haven RidgeLight and Power Pump. I thought the sleeping pad bag for inflation worked well. I hope to sleep outside 10X+ per year, varying use of Haven Spectre and my other lightweight tent from Big Agnes. Nice work on YouTube videos.

Love this! I backpack and I went from ground tents to One Wind hammocks which for me was better than ground sleeping because it was so hard to find level enough ground on the trail and I am a light sleeper. The Spector + Zenbivy Light Bed really struck a sweet spot between fast setup and bed like comfort, that isn't too heavy for backpacking. I also love the Haven support team, they are amazing!

Precision made with high quality materials, the Spectre works wonderfully. Lying flat on the soft mattress with see through mesh all around is very comfortable and relaxing with much better comfort with less limitation of movement or feeling squeezed or restricted. ( I’m 6’4””) than in other standard hammocks. Set up was fast and easy, especially with the small electric inflator /lamp, although adding the rainfly took a little fiddling and practice initially. Instructions for assembly were good. Already very much enjoyed quite a few hours of simple relaxation just hanging.

Have enjoyed the Haven. My only issue is the side zippers are hard to move when I am in the tent. Will take any advice so they work better - are easier to open or close when I am in the hammock. What a great hammock! I have tried various styles of hammocks over the years and this is by far one of the most comfortable hammock I've ever taken a nap on. While I find it too heavy to take out backpacking, I use it when car camping or in the backyard. I had no problem setting it up, and I love how the built-in bug net isn't attached to a ridge line like most, this helps prevent accidental tears and rips. I'm so glad I supported this project on Kickstarter.

Rainfly ripped on the first trip under completly normal usage not extraordinary stress or anything., luckily was able to tape it for the night, it was a 40 degree night, and I was more than one nights walk in the back country, getting soaked wouldve been very dangerous. Haven replaced my rainfly but I can't recommend it to others until the design of the rainfly is fixed, if it tears that easily it's dangerous.

I love this tent; there are a few drawbacks. The bug net is too small. When zipped up, the ridge line is slack, so when someone is in it, the zipper separates and becomes a tangled mess. I just did not use the bug net, and it worked fine.
